What is Stripe?
If you run a business that accepts debit and credit cards, you need a payment processing system. Stripe is a processing system that allows your business to accept online payments from debit and credit cards, as well as from mobile wallets and buy now, pay later services. Stripe will also support payments from over 135 currencies.
If you’re going to use Stripe to accept in-person payment methods, you’ll need to integrate the Stripe Terminal, a point-of-sale system. Along with accepting online and in-person payments, Stripe also offers billing, invoicing, and sales tax automation services.
How Does Stripe Work?
At the point of purchase, your customer will enter their card information, which is entered through the Stripe payment gateway, which encrypts the data for safety and security purposes.
Stripe will then send the data to the bank that will process the transaction on your behalf. The payment will pass through a credit card network, like with Visa or Mastercard, to the cardholder’s issuing bank.
Once that has occurred, the bank will choose to accept or reject the transaction and alert you to the decision.
Is Stripe Payment Secure?
Stripe has been certified as a PCI Level 1 service provider, meaning it undergoes regular compliance checks, as well as routine tests and security scans.
All customer information is encrypted and all decryption information is stored separately, which means Stripe cannot see credit card numbers without taking extra steps.
The Stripe checkout process is absolutely secure to use and ensures your customers’ privacy.
